Macrovision

By Andrew at 11:28 PM

As humans, it can be difficult to maintain a broad view of our surroundings while functioning simultaneously amongst the details. To be comprehensive, though, it is necessary to hold a view that is constantly considering the details while holding an awareness of an impact at large.

Summer 2017 Recap

By Andrew at 6:45 AM

This past summer has been full of fun opportunities with work and barefoot waterski trips. I have also been able to explore new places around the bay for the first time on weekends, including places like Santa Rosa, Fairfield, Napa, and Sonoma. With all this exploration, I figure it is about time for an update!

Quarter-life Crisis

By Andrew at 7:33 AM

At the beginning of 2015 as I was re-evaluating after the closure of PDI I reached an intriguing juncture. I had two degrees, one in animation and one in computer science, and work experience in technology to go along with the degrees. Couple that with living just north of Silicon Valley, and I had some serious decision making to consider.

By Andrew at 8:19 AM

2015 began as a quiet year. We had finished up The Penguins of Madagascar at the end of 2014, and we were just beginning on a couple of other projects that were not scheduled for release until summer or after. However, toward the middle of January I started hearing rumors of a meeting, a meeting that would end up shifting the course of my career.

From October 2011 through January 2015 I worked as a render wrangler at PDI/DreamWorks Animation, at which point PDI was shut down. My time at PDI was a great learning experience, my first introduction into the world of animated film production and film technology.

Where have I been?

By Andrew at 10:11 PM

At one point I had been posting on a weekly basis, but unfortunately I have not done so for, well, quite some time. Much has changed since I last posted, so I will attempt to provide some general updates and follow up with more detail later, on what I hope to be a more regular basis.

So what have I been up to for the past year? I am glad you asked! 2013 has been an eventful year, with much more traveling than I expected, plenty of work, opportunities to see many friends and family members, and a chance to make some new friends along the way! I hope you enjoy a glimpse of what I have been up to over the past twelve months.

Sci-Fi

Jules Verne, George Lucas: two noteworthy names that are nearly synonymous with the Science Fiction genre. What makes sci-fi, which covers a broad range of topics, so appealing to me? Some enjoy sci-fi for the possibilities they see in discovering our origins, others use it as an escape from reality. I tend to enjoy it for the technology, as well as the varied and beautiful settings that tend to go along with the style.

127 Hour Syndrome

By Andrew at 12:22 PM

Being single is tough. There are all sorts of activities out there that would be fun to participate in, but they can be unsafe when approached alone. I recently watched a film by Danny Boyle called “127 Hours,” a movie about a guy who went out into the desert wilderness, all alone, and ended up becoming stuck out there for several days without anyone realizing he was missing. While I have not been faced with such a situation so far, the premise hit close to home as I sometimes find myself going for hikes alone.

Why I Want to be a Producer

By Andrew at 2:14 AM
Mountain Hike

I have known for many years that I was interested in the animation and moviemaking process. However, it was not until my junior year of college that I realized I was especially interested in producing and production management. In fact, it is more than just an interest in that area, I seem to have acquired certain skills conducive to such roles through various job opportunities, classes, and volunteer efforts. But why is it that I would choose production management to concentrate on? What makes this area so unique that I would choose this as the focus of my vocational endeavors?
